Hildaland is a transatlantic folk duo formed by Orkney-born fiddler Louise Bichan and Indiana-raised mandolinist Ethan Setiawan. Meeting at Berklee College of Music, they discovered a shared passion for blending Scottish and American folk traditions. Their music weaves Scottish, Appalachian, old-time, and Swedish influences with original compositions, creating a sound that is both rooted and exploratory.
Their debut album, Sule Skerry, released in November 2023 on Adhyâropa Records, garnered critical acclaim and was longlisted for the 2024 Scots Trad Music Awards Album of the Year. The album features reimagined traditional tunes and original pieces, including the title track “The Selkie of Sule Skerry,” inspired by Orkney folklore.
Hildaland has performed at notable venues and festivals, including Club Passim in Cambridge, MA, and the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow. Their recent tours have taken them across the U.S. and Canada, with performances in Washington, Oregon, California, and an upcoming show at the Denmark Arts Center in Maine on August 9, 2025.
